Spring arrangement with woody foliage

This week we are celebrating foliage with woody stems. Trees and bushes provide some of the nicest foliage this time of year. The new leaves are tender, verdant and a so green you can almost taste them. (Unless they are not supposed to be green, like Ginger Wine Ninebark.)

Once summer rolls around insect damage can make using some woody foliage difficult. We love branches like Physocarpuys, Spirea, Salix, and Viburnum for adding height, architecture and stability to arrangements.

For this arrangement we paired woody foliage with the last tulips of the season and soft pink ranunculus. The dark Labrador tulips are partially reflexed, giving them a totally new shape.
