One of the things we are most proud of at the Collective is our amazing team of local growers!

At Graceroots Farm in Oswego, NY (Zone 6b), we're gearing up for another abundant season of flowers. One of the biggest and most exciting (to me!) projects currently underway is building a flower cooler, which will be a game-changer for flower quality and longevity. This addition will allow us to properly store harvested blooms at the ideal temperature and humidity, ensuring they stay fresher for longer before reaching customers.

Our seed-starting process is in full swing—cool-season flowers like ranunculus and anemones are already planted, with snapdragons, feverfew, and stock, to name a few, soon to follow. We’re also preparing for our warm-season plantings while keeping a close eye on our tulips, which will be here before we know it! This year, we more than doubled the number of tulips we’re growing!

Behind the scenes, a lot of planning happens before seeds even go in the soil. Early in the year, we take inventory of seeds and place final orders to ensure a smooth growing season. Another critical part of this process is crop planning, which helps us determine how much of each variety to grow and how much space we have in each bed.

This year, we’ve made an exciting addition to our grow list—heirloom chrysanthemums! These cool-weather-loving flowers will be a major focus for us as we shift away from growing dahlias. With the right approach, we’re hoping to extend our season well into fall with beautiful, long-lasting chrysanthemums.

I’m so excited to be growing for another year alongside a wonderful group of other local flower farmers in this Collective. It’s inspiring to be part of a community that values locally grown flowers and supports one another throughout the season.

A proud farm moment: A highlight in my farming journey was when, in my very first official year of flower farming, the local chamber of commerce reached out, inviting me to be a vendor at our community's farmers market —a move I had contemplated but was hesitant to commit to initially because I wasn’t sure if I could meet the demands. However, feeling the need to establish my presence in our community, their contact turned out to be a game-changer. Participating in the market was not only a smashing success but also an amazing experience, allowing me to forge meaningful connections and get to know incredible people in the community. I'm grateful for an opportunity that turned into a rewarding and memorable chapter in my farming venture.

Other services offered: I provide CSA subscriptions, bulk buckets, custom small event arrangements.

Wishing you all a season filled with beauty and blooms!
